To Nuuly Or Not To Nuuly…

What are the perks of a clothing rental service?

So what exactly is Nuuly? Nuuly is a clothing rental subscription that lets you choose 6 items each month to rent. It’s a fun way to try out new styles without the long-term commitment (or the price tag) of buying everything. I first signed up for Nuuly during my junior year of college. I had a packed schedule filled with events, and I didn’t want to buy a new outfit for every single one. Renting gave me the freedom to feel stylish without overspending or overcrowding my closet.

I could get outfits that fit whatever job or event I had at the time, and if I really loved something, I had the option to buy it at a discounted price. I mean, who doesn’t love a discount? When I started working at Loverly Grey, I wasn’t sure if I’d still need it, but it quickly became the perfect way to add trendy pieces to my wardrobe for work without the pressure to commit.

One of my favorite features of Nuuly is how easy it is to pause or cancel your subscription. No fees and no stress plus, it’s flexible to your timing and wants. I recently paused mine for two months because I wasn’t traveling, had my go-to work outfits lined up, and didn’t have any big events coming up. Being able to hit pause until I needed it again was a major plus. However, it wasn’t long after that I began to miss the creativity and breadth that Nuuly gave me when it came to picking out my outfit for the day. Sure enough, I was able to reactivate my subscription and fill my “bag” with my current favorite pieces.

Now if you are new to Nuuly, it can be a bit overwhelming (they literally have so many clothes), but I have a few helpful hints to make your “shopping” easier. I personally love to shop from the “Newest” arrivals and see what has recently hit the site. These items will also tend to come with tags or in brand new condition. I then will go through any relevant “edits” that Nuuly has curated (ex. “Summer wedding guest”, “Wear to work”) and see if any of those pieces stick out to me. Then I will search for brands that I know and love: Anthropologie, Pistola, Madewell, and En Saison.

Thinking About Trying Nuuly?
If you’re on the fence, ask yourself a few questions:

  • Do I like having new outfits for events or plans?
  • Do I want to try pieces that might normally intimidate me?
  • Do I want more variety in my wardrobe without fully committing?

If you answered yes to any of those, Nuuly might be worth a try.

How to Make the Most of Your Subscription:

If you’re planning to use Nuuly consistently, think about how your wardrobe fits your lifestyle.

  • Do you go in-person to an office? Consider blouses, trousers, or chic layers.
  • Have a standing date night? Rent a fun new dress.
  • Into pickleball or outdoor activities? Nuuly has cute activewear.

PRO TIP: I also try to build a mini capsule with each order

  • One top that works for both work and weekends
  • One bottom (jeans, skirt, or shorts)
  • A throw-on dress for those “I have nothing to wear” moments
  • One piece that pushes me outside my comfort zone

Using Nuuly Seasonally or Occasionally:
You don’t have to use Nuuly year-round. Think of it as a tool you can pick up when your calendar is busier or your wardrobe needs a seasonal refresh.

  • Have several fall weddings to attend? Nuuly has great guest dress options.
  • Traveling somewhere with a totally different climate? Rent pieces tailored to your destination. (I’m planning a trip to New York this winter and already know I’ll be adding a couple of fun, cozy coats to my Nuuly)

Whether you’re looking to switch up your wardrobe, test out some new trends, or just avoid the stress of shopping for every event, Nuuly has truly been a game changer for me. I love the freedom it gives me to try new looks without the long-term commitment, and the pause feature makes it even easier to use on my terms.
