Who doesn’t love a moment for a good handbag and a woman with ambition?! Today’s guest is our go-to gal for both new and pre-owned luxury accessories, Julia Carney of Julia Rose Boston Luxury.
When it comes to designer or luxury items, we know that practicality has left the chat, but! There is more than meets the eye with this luxury brand owner!
Julia started her business while living in London during Brexit when luxury handbags were at an all time low (tune in to hear her first investment!). She also saw a gap in the luxury market for how a designer handbag would look on a curvier-figured woman.
And then voila -- Her business mind paired with her emotional awareness created an impactful and successful luxury brand.
Brittany first came across Julia’s brand years ago when Julia’s numbers were still relatively small from a business perspective. With a mutual love of handbags, and a good deal now and then, they have continued to support each other’s brands.
Brittany’s first purchase from Julia was this lovely pink Louis Vuitton in Mahina leather. Cue all the heart eyes.
And the love affair has continued! Much to Chris’s (Brittany’s husband) dismay at times :)
Brittany and Julia are chatting in this episode about:
- How Julia left her 9-5 working in public health development at Mass General Hospital in Boston before following her passion of designer accessories
- Julia’s relatable journey with body image that we all experience
- Why her first office was in a high profile criminal law office!
- Julia’s suggestion on the best investment handbag pieces
- Her biggest piece of advice for new entrepreneurs
Stay up-to-date on fashion trends and bag investment with some of Julia’s suggestions below!
Fashion Trend.
Red is having a moment! While Brittany is on the hunt for a red Chanel bag with gold hardware, Julia agrees it’s hard to come by! If you also feel like Chanel reds lean more orange or more raspberry, Julia totally agrees. She’s seen some come close, but mostly they exist in the vintage form. We are still waiting for that true, lipstick red with gold hardware from Chanel!
Go To Bag.
Julia’s go-to bag for a girl’s night dinner is a Medium Classic Flap Chanel with gold hardware (lambskin shown below).
If you’re a classic gal like Julia, you can’t go wrong with this one.
Best Investment Pieces.
If you’re looking to be somewhat responsible with your luxury investment, Julia says that beige, cream, and neutrals are best for color, gold is is typically preferred for hardware, and smaller/more compact is best for sizing because the Asian market drives most of the luxury pricing, and smaller sizing is preferred in that market.
Julia’s Story.
After feeling a little burnt out from her public health position, Julia moved to London to pursue her graduate degree. You now already know her story with Brexit and Julia seeing a specific gap in the luxury market, but what you didn’t know is she began selling her pieces on Buy/Sell Facebook groups during the pandemic.
And a funny story of where she began! Her dad is a high-profile, criminal defense attorney (and her mom was an amazing architect of some of the pioneering public health policies in the US!). While her dad still doesn’t fully understand what she does (I think anyone with an online company can relate!), he supported her in her early days by allowing her to utilize his law office as her first office as well.
To be a fly on the wall in that building! Criminal defense chats and high-end luxury bags. Sounds like every millennial gal’s dream :)
And her biggest piece of advice for new entrepreneurs? Be authentic. Be yourself. Know your voice and be confident that your voice should be heard.
Get ready to be inspired and also start dreaming about your next accessory :)
